Celebrate National Midwifery Week with Holistic Support for Mother & Baby

SEPTEMBER 26, 2025 | ISSUE #5

National Midwifery Week Oct 5 - Oct 11

National Midwifery Week, organized by the American College of Nurse-Midwives, is a special opportunity to honor the essential role of midwives in healthcare. This week-long celebration takes place from October 5–11, 2025, and is a time for midwives and supporters to showcase the hallmarks of midwifery and raise awareness of the life-changing care midwives provide. At RVA Chiropractic & Wellness we honor midwives' central role in guiding families through the transformative journey of pregnancy and birth, and we are beyond grateful for the love and support midwives provide.

Show Your Support

You can show support for midwives during National Midwifery Week and beyond with simple gestures like expressing appreciation or sharing positive birth stories to help make a significant impact. Here are a few ideas:

  • Share your story: Write letters to editors, post on social media with dedicated hashtags, or simply thank a midwife personally for their care.
  • Advocate for midwives by supporting local and national policy efforts aimed at expanding access to midwifery care and improving working conditions for midwives.
  • Encourage civic leaders to proclaim National Midwifery Week and help publicize midwives' essential roles in maternal and newborn care.
  • Stay informed and advocate for improved maternal and newborn health outcomes by participating in community forums, book clubs, or continuing education about midwifery care.

Taking these steps—whether as a one-time show of support during National Midwifery Week or as an ongoing commitment—helps raise awareness about the value midwives bring to families and communities, and fosters environments where they can continue to offer the highest quality care.

Why Choose a Midwife?

Midwifery-led care for low-risk pregnancies results in better outcomes, including significantly lower rates of Cesarean sections, fewer medical interventions, and shorter hospital stays compared to obstetrician-led care. Studies from 2024 show that midwifery models are linked to reduced risks of preterm birth, low birthweight, postpartum complications, and unscheduled emergency visits, while also improving patient satisfaction and providing more respectful, personalized care. These findings highlight the advantage of integrating midwife-led care into health systems to improve maternal and infant health and address disparities.

For all of the reasons listed above, and many more, we are proud to work both directly and indirectly with so many of the amazing midwives here in RVA. Here are just a few links to midwives in our area:

How Chiropractic care can help

Holistic Care with Dr. Lisa

At RVA Chiropractic & Wellness, Dr. Lisa specializes in prenatal and postpartum chiropractic—including the Webster Technique, pelvic floor rehab, yoga, and nutrition—supporting better posture, alignment, and comfort through all stages of pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Massage Therapy for Expecting and New Mothers

Cathy Campbell, LMT, blends multiple therapeutic modalities to offer deeply supportive massage care:

  • Techniques include therapeutic, myofascial release, deep tissue, craniosacral therapy, trigger point therapy, and prenatal massage among others.
  • Prenatal massage at the clinic is designed to relieve common pregnancy discomforts—like back pain, swelling, and hip tension—with safe positioning and nurturing support.

Why this matters for Midwifery Week—and your body

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care during pregnancy offers gentle support for both mother and baby. The Webster Technique helps create balance in the pelvic muscles and ligaments, which may encourage optimal fetal positioning and bring more comfort as the body prepares for labor and birth. Beyond this, targeted chiropractic adjustments and functional rehabilitation can ease many common prenatal and postpartum discomforts, such as back pain, sciatica, posture changes, or even incontinence, helping women feel more at ease and supported throughout their journey.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can also be a nurturing part of pregnancy care, offering relief in both body and mind. Prenatal massage has been shown to reduce stress, lift mood, and ease discomforts like back or leg pain, while also helping to lower feelings of depression and anxiety. Research even suggests that this kind of care can benefit baby as well, as massage during pregnancy has been associated with improved newborn behavior and development, along with helping mothers experience lower stress hormone levels. Together, these holistic approaches offer loving support that nurtures both mother and child.

Let’s make this Midwifery Week a time to deepen support for moms-to-be. Share this with your care network—or reach out and discover how integrated chiropractic and massage can enhance your journey.
